Dr. EDO, GREAT IRUOGHENE

Profile

Great Iruoghene Edo was born in Delta State Nigeria. He is a Distinguished Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry at Delta State University of Science and Technology (Now Southern Delta University (SDU)), Ozoro, Nigeria. He specializes in the areas of Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Toxicology, Biopolymer Functionality. Edo received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria), Master’s degree in Chemistry (Cyprus International University, Nicosia, Cyprus situated in Europe) and Ph.D. in Chemistry (Al-Nahrain University, Baghdad, Iraq situated in Asia). Edo is the co-author of book chapters in “Exploring the intersection of fungal products and human immunology: Fungal Macromolecule Applications in Life Sciences” (2025), “The Phytochemistry and Pharmacology of Bidens alba: The Genus Bidens (2025)” and of “Bioactive Compounds and Biological Activities of Tiger Nut (Cyperus esculentus L.)” (2024). In addition, he has published over 161 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals with over 3,800 citations, H-index of 36 on Google Scholar and over 2,600 citations, H-index of 32 on SCOPUS). Dr. Edo has over 135 Scopus indexed articles published in high impact journals from 2022 till date. Dr. Edo received a letter from the Faculty of Science, Southern Delta University in recognition of his scientific achievements especially as the 79th best scientist out of the top 500 scientists in Nigeria by Elsevier (SCOPUS) in 2025. Dr. Edo is a professional member of the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), and a global outreach member of the Royal Society of London. Dr. Edo is currently the Best Scientist/Researcher in Delta State University of Science and Technology (Now Southern Delta University (SDU)). He is an editorial member of Annals of Applied Sciences (AAS) and a reviewer for several journals indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science. He has organized numerous seminars and workshops for staff and students during his time as Acting Head of Department of Petroleum Chemistry at SDU from 2022 to 2023. Dr Edo is the founder of The Great Elite Scholars, who train young people on research and also the Team Leader mentoring other scholars within and outside Nigeria. He has served as facilitator for academic seminar and workshop at Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU), Agbarha-Otor, Nigeria in training academic staff on effective research writing and publication in high impact journals in 2025.
