Profile

PROFILE OF DR. CHARITY NWAMAKA ATOMA Charity Nwamaka Atoma was born in 1969 in Delta State and completed her primary and secondary education respectively at Onyia Primary School, Delta State (1980) and Umuaja Mixed Secondary School, Umuaja (1986). She proceeded to Delta State University, Abraka where she obtained a Bachelor of Science (ed) in Agricultural Science in 1992. Subsequently, in 1995, she earned the Master of Science in Agricultural Extension Services at the prestigious University of Ibadan. After a Period of robust professional career in teaching and school administration she enrolled for her doctoral studies at Federal University of Technology Owerri and successfully completed her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Agricultural Extension in 2016. Driven by commitment to excellence and raising the bar of impeccable academic quality, practices, and national reconstruction of scholarship in Organic Agriculture she has attended and presented papers at 29 local and international conferences, and her pursuit of academic excellence has seen her publish over 65 journal articles and conference proceedings with over 300 citations. Her articles have appeared in several SCOPUS indexed journals, both foreign and local reputable peer reviewed journals with high impact such as Asian Journal of Agriculture and Rural Development, Transylvanian review, Elsevier Journal of Agricultural Systems, Journal of Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria, International Journal of Innovation and Applied Studies, and Journal of Technology and Education in Nigeria, among others. Dr .Atoma is a member of many recognized professional bodies both in and outside Nigeria. Some of which are Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria (NOAN); International Society of Organic Agriculture Research (ISOFAR), Germany; Organic Agriculture Professionals in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria (OAPTIN); Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria (AESON); Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN); She is also a member of the steering committee for Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture in Africa (KCOA) Her willingness to contribute to institutional and organisation goals has seen her take up many professional responsibilities and currently, she holds the following positions: editor, International Journal of Organic Agriculture Research and Development,an official journal of the Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria; Vice president, Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners in Nigeria ( NOAN); South-South Coordinator, Organic Agriculture Professionals In Nigeria; Chairman Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro (DSUST); vice chairman, Faith Academy Warri Parents Teachers Association; In times past, she had served in various administrative capacities, one of which was steering the Faculty of Agriculture, Delta State Polytechnic/ Delta State University of Science and Technology, as dean/acting dean at different periods. She is intelligent, hardworking, resourceful, a team player, and above all, God fearing. She has supervised students in their project works and engaged in several research projects both as a team and individual. She has also received several commendations and merit awards by different groups for excellence. She leads from the front and have always motivated subordinates to accomplish set targets / goals.
